Foremost made the announcement this week that they plan to close the Chilton plant this Summer. The plant was built back in the 1940s and made provolone cheese. The decision to close comes after the coronavirus impacted the demand for their product.
The closure will also mean their 53 employees will be out of work as well. Luckily, this won't impact farmers that ship milk to the plant.
Foremost wanted people to know that the closure has nothing to do with the performance of the employees. The demand for their Italian cheese just hasn't been there since the virus hit, which left them with an oversupply of product.
The company said they'll be sorting through the details of a severance package in the weeks ahead.
