GRAND CHUTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Fox Valley event inspires women to seek public safety careers.
Appleton Police teamed up with Fox Valley Technical College for its annual “Women in Public Safety” event Thursday.
Hosted at the college’s public safety training facility, the one-day event gives young women an introduction to careers in public safety.
Led by women currently working in public safety, the day consisted of hands-on activities in police, fire and EMS.
“As we know, anything in the workforce, we need new blood. And right now there’s not a lot of women in public safety careers and so this gives that exposure to interested females and this event focuses on that, women ages 15 to 21, to get them into great career options that are available to them right here in the Fox Valley,” explained Carrie Koepp, Criminal Justice Department Chair for FVTC.
Even if participants don’t pursue careers in public safety, organizers hope the event helps the young women become stronger, more confident community members.
