OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-METRO) – Students at UW-Oshkosh say the university’s most recent round of layoffs is being felt by disabled students.
The university cut its disabled student support staff in half, from eight people to four. Disability advocate Sophia Schneider says having fewer people serve the same number of disabled students means there’s not enough to go around.
UW-O laid off about 200 people to start the year as a way to try and fend-off an 18 million-dollar deficit.
Schneider says the layoffs have left disabled students waiting to get help with classroom accommodations or services that they used to have access to.
